Support the Poetry Collection

Gifts from alumni and friends enable the Poetry Collection to continue serving as the library of record for 20th- and 21st-century poetry in English.

Your support helps to provide for the acquisition, organization, preservation, digitization and exhibition of books, magazines, journals and important literary archives. Donations are tax deductible and help support the research and teaching missions of the Poetry Collection.

Each year the collection supports with its materials a wide range of scholarly publications, opens its doors to visiting researchers from around the world, and assists the educational activities of undergraduate and graduate students at UB and elsewhere. Furthermore, the collection hosts numerous lectures, conferences, readings, and other events, making it an active research center for the study of modern and contemporary poetry.

When you support the Poetry Collection’s General Fund, Friends Fund, or any of the named endowed funds listed below, your tax-deductible gift helps to preserve and promote the art of poetry and its study. These funds support the research and teaching missions of the Poetry Collection through activities such as:

  • Acquisitions of books, magazines, journals, and archives
  • Community engagement through events and publications
  • Preservation
  • Digitization

  • The Poetry Collection General Fund

Supports the daily operations of the Poetry Collection, including acquiring and cataloging new poetry books and magazines, purchasing manuscript collections, caring for our existing materials, hiring student works, and funding occasional publications.
  • The Friends of the Poetry Collection Endowment Fund

Supports the acquisition of new materials as well as special projects such as events and publications.

Funds in Support of Specific Collections

Thanks to the generosity of dedicated benefactors, the Poetry Collection also has named funds that support specific collections and/or collections related to specific poets and related works.

(For all of the accounts except the Poetry Collection General Fund, James Joyce Museum Fund, and Dr. John Bishop Memorial Visiting Scholar Fund, you will have a choice of whether or not you want to contribute to the endowment or have your funds available for immediate use.)
