Congratulations to UB undergraduate student, Sarah Stanford, winner of the 2017 “Journey of Discovery” Library-Supported Research Prize. This $500 award recognizes students who produce significant academic inquiry requiring use of the University Libraries’ information resources and collections. An English and Psychology major, Sarah was recognized at the recent Celebration of Student Academic Excellence for her research project, Resilience in Refugee Communities.
Sarah began her research journey with a simple literature review on educational resilience in refugees. While exploring the Libraries’ digital and print information resources, she realized the complexity of the refugee situation, and narrowed her topic to focus on young Bhutanese-Nepali Women in Buffalo.
Sarah’s research has also resulted in a scholarship from the Gender Institute on Women’s Studies, an English Honor’s thesis on refugee narratives, and a passion to pursue graduate work on identity formation, resilience, and educational inequities.
Congratulations, Sarah!
