Albert Henry Briggs Collection, 1865-1900
Dr. Albert H. Briggs was born in Elma, New York. Graduate of the University at Buffalo Medical School, 1871. Counted as one of the twelve original organizers of the Buffalo Medical Union and Buffalo's first appointed health officer. State medical examiner of the A.O.U.W., and for over 35 years served as the chief surgeon of the 65th Regiment New York State Volunteers.
The collection consists of sixteen volumes of account books, ledgers, office registers, and casebooks documenting medical visits, treatments and fees. Casebooks in the colllection documment Briggs' medical care of the 65th Regiment New York Volunteers at G.A.R. encampments of 1897 and 1898. Collection also includes a medical examiner's record book for Lodge No. 83, A.O.U.W., 1877-1879.
