Ralph Maud

Ralph Maud was a assistant professor in the Department of English.  In 1963, he was asked to sign an anti-Communist loyalty oath. His refusal led to a Supreme Court challenge to the New York State "Feinberg Oath." The court struck down the oath in 1967.  Maud wrote a pamphlet about the oath titled "The Feinberg Certificate at Buffalo" under the pen name Frank Nugent.  Copies of the pamphlet can be found in collection 16/4F/1333: Harry Keyishian papers.
