Milton C. Albrecht

Milton C. Albrecht, Dean of the University at Buffalo's College of Arts and Sciences from 1958-1965, joined the faculty in 1946 as a member of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English literature, respectively in 1931 and 1937, from the University of California at Berkeley and taught at the University of Idaho prior to coming to Buffalo.
Albrecht edited The Sociology of Art and Literature: A Reader (1970). He wrote several reports, articles and book reviews on sociology and literature as well as on educational psychology. Albrecht devoted a great deal of time addressing community issues. He served on the Board of Directors for the Buffalo Chamber Music Society, Western New York Research Center and the Buffalo Urban League. He also served on several committees for the Community Welfare Council. During his position as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo, student enrollment advanced from 1,600 to nearly 5,000 students with full time faculty up from 150 to over 425. From 1954-1958, Albrecht was also Director of the Tutorial Instruction program.
