Vivian Cody

A full professor and senior research scientist in the Department of Structural Biology, Vivian Cody began working at UB in 1979. She earned her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1965 and her Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in 1969. She was made a full professor in 2001.

Very involved professionally, Cody is on the editorial boards of Endocrinology and Endocrine Research. She is a member of the Chemistry Task Force of the American Association for Cancer Researchers and nominating committee of the American Thyroid Association.

She is also on the advisory board for GRIP, a project of the computer science department at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that applies computer graphics to the study of molecular structure and function and builds interactive tools for research in molecular biology.

Recently, Cody was awarded by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Buffalo branch as their 2004 Woman of Achievement.

Cody is also known for her work with Zonta International, "a global service organization of executives in business and the professions working together, across political and social boundaries, to advance the status of women worldwide." She has been a member of Zonta since 1983 and is currently a Zonta International officer. In the past she has served as the president of the Buffalo chapter and the governor of Zonta International District 4 from 2000-2002.
