Personally involved in the theatre community around the world, Maria Horne has brought her knowledge, talents, and connections to the Theatre and Dance program at UB. Currently an Associate Professor in acting and literature, she has experience as an actor, director, producer, and performing arts judge.
Concentrating in Ibero-American Theater and acting pedagogy, Horne's publications have been distributed worldwide and in multiple languages. Of note are two trilingual (English/French/Spanish) texts that she's co-edited: Studying the Theatre (2001) and Theatre without Frontiers (2002). An excellent teacher, Horne has also lectured, hosted conferences, and acted throughout the world.
In 1994, Horne founded and directed the Center for the Arts' International Artistic and Cultural Exchange Program, a program that brings unusually gifted theatre and dance artists to UB from around the world and supports the performance of UB students at a variety of international theatre festivals.
Horne is also Vice-President of the International University Theatre Association (AITU/UTA) and Editor for the AITU Press. She is the United States Delegate of CELCIT (Latin American Center for Theatre Research and Creation) and a corresponding member of the International Theatre Education and Training Committee. Also involved in UNESCO's International Theatre Institute, she has served as a consultant for several international organizations.

In addition, Horne has been American Cultural Specialist for the United States Department of State since 2000. She is also a member of the Organizing Committee of the 6th World Congress, which will take place in Puebla, Mexico in November 2005.
