Lauren Hitchcock

Lauren B. Hitchcock joined the faculty of the University at Buffalo’s School of Engineering in 1963. He earned his bachelor's (1920), master’s (1927) and doctoral (1933) degrees in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Prior to coming to UB, Hitchcock was a professor of chemical engineering at the University of Virginia, an executive at Hooker Electrochemical Company and Quaker Oats Company, and president of the National Dairy Research Laboratories.

Lauren B. Hitchcock was a pioneer in the fight against air pollution.  In 1954, he became the president of the Air Pollution Foundation of Los Angeles and in 1957, he formed Lauren B. Hitchcock Associates, an air pollution consulting firm.  In 1972, he left the University at Buffalo to become director of development at Ecology and Environment Inc., a national environmental consulting firm.
