Edgar Z. Friedenberg

Edgar Z. Friedenberg was born on March 18, 1921, in New York City.  He received his B.S. from Centenary College of Louisiana (1938), his M.A., Stanford University (1939) and his Ph.D., University of Chicago (1946).  After earning his Ph.D., Friedenberg held teaching positions at the University of Chicago (1946-1953), Brooklyn College (1953-1964) and University of California at Davis (1965-1967).

Edgar Z. Friedenberg was a professor of Sociology and Education at the State University of New York at Buffalo from 1967-1970.  In 1970, he left the United States as a protest of the Vietnam War and became a professor at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, where he was named emeritus professor in 1986.
