Charles M. Fogel

Charles M. Fogel's long relationship with the University at Buffalo began when he enrolled as an undergraduate student in 1931. He earned both a BA (1935, magna cum laude) and MA (1938) in physics at UB. During World War II, Fogel was an instructor in physics and then supervisor of physics instruction for UB's Army Airforce College Training Program. When the School of Engineering was established in 1946, Fogel was the third professor hired by the school. In addition to his teaching duties, he held many administrative positions at the university. These include Assistant Dean of the School of Engineering, Director of the Division of General and Technical Studies, Assistant to the President and Assistant Executive Vice President. In 1990, Fogel was the first recipient of the UB President's Medal, awarded for his exemplary service to the university. He retired in 1984.
