WBFO station records

WBFO-FM 88.7, UB’s National Public Radio affiliate, first broadcast on Jan. 6, 1959, staffed by student volunteers. Later, another group of students established an FM radio station, with an FM license for broadcasting at 80.7 megacycles and continued as a student run activity with a student Program Manager until 2011, when UB sold WBFO to Western New York Public Broadcasting Association. The collection contains production and administrative files related to the operation of WBFO.

Also included is the will (1974) of Isador J. Warner (of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), and certificates (1891-1892) about Nathan Friedenberg (of Suspension Bridge Village, Niagara County).

The John Gibson Winans papers, 1930-1982 (bulk 1940-1953) contains the personal and professional papers of J. Gibson Winans, mainly from his affiliation with the University of Wisconsin and Sylvania Electric Products Inc. Included in the collection are correspondence pertaining to professional activities such as conferences and research, as well as early indications of Winans' eventual involvement in politics (including a letter from Senator Joseph McCarthy). Research reports, notes on physics and other topics, teaching materials, documents related to Winans' publication history, and other miscellaneous items make up of the rest of the collection.

Records, 1946-1949, of the Relief Project undertaken by the Women's Club of the University of Buffalo, to aid families of university professors in Germany, Austria, France, England, the Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Greece, and other countries devastated during World War II. Women's Work: A Tribute to the Women Who Make UB Work

This website was created as part of the Women's Work exhibition held in University Archives in 2004, which focused on the achievements and contributions of women faculty, staff, and administration to the University at Buffalo over the past 100 years.

The website includes all of the biographies of the 80+ women selected for the exhibit, samples from oral histories with some of the women, and examples of UB women's work: programs for and reviews of Sylvia Dimiziani's concerts, Susan Howe's poetry, a short movie directed by Meg Knowles, clips of Virginia Leary speaking at a teach-in, and a radio interview with Helen Lyman among others.
