Land (Adelle H.) Papers, circa 1931-1968

Professional papers, primarily extensive documentation of the unified program in teacher education, the Graduate Professional Unit, developed and taught by Dr. Land at the University of Buffalo, 1931-1968. Also includes notes, correspondence, and papers from her doctoral work at Teachers' College, Columbia University, 1932-1937, and other materials reflecting her career as a progressive educator and early advocate of preparation for teaching in higher education. Material also includes Army Air Force training course material, progressive school information, class lists and assignments, committee information, professional reports, correspondence, typescripts of works, radio scripts of "Human Nature in Action," information on Pi Lambda Theta, AAUP, ITEPSST, reports on graphology, personal memorabilia and notes. Also includes information on Daniel Bell Leary and William Chandler Bagley (Columbia University), correspondence with Carter Alexander (Teachers' College).

Lane (Carroll Fenton) Science Series radio program lectures, 1930

Carroll Lane Fenton (1900-1969) authored and illustrated several books on paleontology and geology. In 1930, he recorded a series of lectures for local radio station WGR: Relics of Early Life; How Rocks are Formed; The Crust of the Earth; Mineral Deposits; and Climates of the Past

This collections consists of typescripts and one handwritten manuscript of these lectures.

Lauren B. Hitchcock papers, 1923-1966

The Lauren B. Hitchcock papers consist of materials related to his career as a chemical engineer and opponent of air pollution. The collection includes photo albums, scrapbooks, scholarly publications, teaching notes and his dissertation. The majority of the material relates to Hitchcocks career prior to coming to the University at Buffalo in 1963.

Leary (Daniel Bell) Papers, circa 1920-1946

Papers include outlines and notes for speeches and courses in psychology, publications, correspondence, and a typescript draft with corrections of book, The Search for Salvation: A Psychological Study of Religion, 1932. Also includes a thirty page letter to Leary in 1943 from a former patient at Buffalo State Hospital charging the University of Buffalo with conducting experiments on her.

Lemon (A.B.), Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Papers, 1926-1969

Papers of Dr. Asa Bertram Lemon, Dean of the School of Pharmacy, 1926-1969 document the growth of the School of Pharmacy and Alumni Association during Dr. Lemon's time at the University at Buffalo. The collection includes his state and local professional pharmaceutical activities and correspondence as well course material, correspondence and song books from the School of Pharmacy.

Levine (Adeline) Love Canal Research Materials (Part I), 1953-1981 (1978-1981 bulk)

Materials collected by Dr. Adeline Levine, Department of Sociology, State University of New York at Buffalo, for her book Love Canal: Science, Politics and People, published by Lexington Books in 1982. This collection includes a copy of the Quit Claim Deed, dated April 28, 1953, in which land was transferred from Hooker Electrochemical to the Niagara Falls Board of Education for the sum of $1.

This collection covers the LGBT clubs and community at UB in the 70’s, during which the first LGB club was founded on campus, and into the 80’s, and 90’s. This collection will continue to grow to encompass more items from these decades and in time will include the 2000’s. Linda A. Chamberlain Camp Fire Girls collection, 1961

A collection of material from Linda A. Chamberlain regarding her time in the Camp Fire Girls.  The collection consists of a photograph of Chamberlain standing in front of the Camp Aloha sign, a 1961 group photograph of campers at Camp Aloha with some campers identified on the back, and a note from Chamberlain to her brother Billy Donda.  The note includes a layout of the cabin Chamberlain stayed in at camp.

Lipset (Seymour Martin) Comparative Student Project Files, 1936-1972

Printed material collected by Lipset and others at Harvard University between 1967 and 1971. Includes student publications; articles for scholarly journals and popular magazines; newspaper clippings and studies concerning student activist movements throughout the world, with emphasis on the United States, Latin America, and international student organizations. Also many unpublished studies about students originally prepared for presentation at conferences or for graduate courses. This collection reflects only a partial result of the material collected by the project.

Lipsitz (Richard) Papers, 1964-1967

Working papers of Richard Lipsitz, Esq., attorney for plaintiffs in Keyishian et al. vs. Board of Regents et al., 1964, in which four faculty members and a librarian at the State University of New York at Buffalo challenged New York State's Feinberg Law on public employees and subversive activities. Includes correspondence, court documents, notes, press clippings, and background materials.

Lively (Robert A.) Papers, 1943-1973

Correspondence, 1952-58, with a group of southern historians including Dewey w. Grantham, Charles G. Sellers, George B. Tindall, and C. Vann Woodward, concerning a collection of essays published in 1960 as The Southerner as American; correspondence regarding editing and publishing of books.  Also correspondence concerning his professional career, including candid comments on his goals and on the strengths and weaknesses of graduate history programs; and correspondence with David E. Lilienthal, 1960-68; lecture notes, 1951-68; and drafts of speeches.

Love Canal Collections at the University at Buffalo

The University Archives is the repository of numerous collections related to environmental issues in Western New York. Particular attention has been paid to the environmental disaster Love Canal.

This website includes an introduction to the history and background of the events that occurred at Love Canal, two chronologies of events, scanned documents of the Ecumenical Task Force, database of Love Canal articles, and a glossary of definitions for individuals, organizations, businesses, government agencies, chemical waste dump sites, and major issues relating to Love Canal and other local environmental disaster areas.
