Kadimah School of Buffalo Records, 1958-2009

The Kadimah School of Buffalo Records describe the governance and activities of the school between 1959 and 2010 as well as pre-opening materials from 1958. The bulk of the material dates from between 1957 to 1989. The collection contains minutes and administrative papers, budgets, student and faculty related materials, publications and publicity materials.

Kaiser (Arthur L.) Papers, 1950-1975

Papers of Arthur Kaiser on the Faculty of Educational Studies and its predecessor, the School of Education containing printed or mimeographed minutes, memoranda, reports, and other items, some with brief notes by Dr. Kaiser. Also includes general files on the Office of Admissions and Records and various university committees and events and a 1929 report on the School of Fine Arts, later known as the Albright Art School.

Ketter (Robert L.) appointment books, 1969-1981

14 volumes of University at Buffalo President Robert L. Ketter's appointment books. Ketter was President from 1970-1982. The appointment books were kept for Ketter by Edna Thill, Secretary to the President.

Ketter (Robert L.) evaluation records, 1974

In 1973, the SUNY Board of Trustees established a five-year term appointment for Presidents, with reappointment contingent upon evaluation and review according to procedures spelled out in documents in this collection. Ketter was the first of the Presidents to be evaluated and seems to have been the first to undergo such an evaluation in the country.

The collection contains "Guidelines for the Review Process for the Chancellor and Presidents," Ketter's appraisal, and the "Final Report of the Ad Hoc Committee for Presidential Performance Review at SUNY/AB."

Ketter's appraisal is notable for his contextual narrative of the University at Buffalo in the years immediately prior to his term, through 1974. Included are his assessment of the University's relationship with the greater Western New York community; university administrative and governance structures; enrollment; campus and academic planning; and funding.

Ketter (Robert L.) papers and memorabilia, 1954-1989

Collection contains but is not limited to memos, correspondence, reprints, research notes, course materials, diagrams, photos, clippings and objects related to Ketter's career especially at UB, beginning in 1958 with notes on teaching civil engineering. Every major stage of his career is represented, including Deanship of the Graduate School, Vice Presidency of Facilities Planning, and department chair; also highlighted are his activities in the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Western New York Council on Health Care Planning, and Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society. A single box contains the records of Lorelei Z. Ketter acting in the capacity of personal secretary to Ketter, and includes her notes on University events, records of her participation in the preservation of the Darwin D. Martin House, and her own compilation of records on the University's art and antiques collections. Copies of publications significant in Ketter's career are also collected, including performance evaluations of Ketter's presidency.

Professional Papers -- papers, reports, memos and correspondence related to Ketter's work as a faculty member at UB, facilities planning VP, civil engineering consultant, BECHS board of trustees president, etc. in pre- and post-presidential times -- includes 3 cartons of papers related to Ketter's participation (1967-72) in the Western New York Health Care Council.

Presidential Papers -- Ketter's personal copies of memos, correspondence and miscellaneous reports pertaining to his duties as President of UB -- personal, faculty management, campus and facility development, also memorabilia and papers relating to sister university relationship with Kyoungpook University, S. Korea.

Papers of Mrs. Ketter -- correspondence and notes regarding Presidential and personal travel, social arrangements, and University-owned art and antiques from Mrs. Ketter's duties as personal assistant to President Ketter and as member of the Darwin Martin house preservation board. Includes background information on Frank Lloyd Wright and the Martin house collected by Mrs. Ketter.

Photos -- personal and family snapshots, Information Services photos and photos from other sources of Ketter with family and colleagues. Includes photos of formal and informal University functions such as visits from Korean higher education dignitaries and Ketter's visits to other countries while President. Also included are some of the functions for which Mrs. Ketter acted as planner showing table settings and arrangements.

Ketter was President from 1970-1982. In addition to drafts of speeches, the file also includes background information, comments and suggestions of the speeches by members of the University administration.

Also includes subject files kept by Harry Jackson, on various
topics in higher education, likely used as source material in Ketter’s speeches. The files include notes, pamphlets, reports, newspaper clippings, and other printed items, and some original correspondence and memoranda of Harry Jackson, President Ketter and other University administrators.

King (Dr. Martin Luther, Jr.) at Buffalo Collection, 1967

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at Buffalo collection documents Dr. King’s visit and speech in Buffalo, New York on November 9, 1967. The speech, entitled “The Future of Integration” was sponsored by the Student Association and Graduate Student Association and held at Kleinhans Music Hall. The UB Spectrum reported that Dr. King “castigated the ‘national administration that is more concerned with an unjust war in Vietnam than with winning the war on poverty.’ ” The collection includes audio of the speech, photographs of the event, and coverage from the UB Spectrum student newspaper.

Krehbiel (Paul) Campus Unrest Collection, circa 1968-2000 (bulk 1968-1970)

Papers, circa 1968-1970, of student activist Paul Krehbiel, concerning his involvement in and exposure to the Student unrest of the late 1960s-1970 at the University at Buffalo. The papers are divided into series chronicling local issues (e.g., the Buffalo 9, University and regional rallies and issues) and publications; non-local information (e.g., SDS publications, miscellaneous clippings); and one file on Krehbiel’s post-UB activities. Significantly represented topics include material on general strikes; marches on hunger and other community involvement; equal rights; project Themis; Vietnam; SDS and its division into the Weathermen, et al.; national student unrest; Buffalo YAWF (including copies of The Activist magazine); Buffalo general publications such as New Age and the Buffalo Insighter; University-related activities and publications (Midnight Oil), many centering on the UB Norton Student Union, which became a focus for unrest and student meetings.
